Governor Alex Otti has revealed plans to upgrade the Umuahia Township Stadium as part of efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure in Abia and support Abia Warriors Football Club ahead of their participation in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) delegation led by its President, Ibrahim Gusau, where Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s commitment to sports development in Abia State.
According to the Governor, the upgrade will bring the stadium to modern standards, ensuring a suitable home ground for Abia Warriors, who will represent Nigeria on the continental stage.
Meanwhile, Abia Warriors, under head coach Imama Amapakabo, are currently in closed camping ahead of the new football season, as they gear up for their continental campaign.
