Governor Diri Rewards Bayelsa Queens with Millions After Premiership Victory

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has announced a multi-million-naira reward for Bayelsa Queens Football Club after the team emerged winners of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership (NWFL).

Speaking during the 167th State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa, Governor Diri revealed that each of the 26 players who featured in the title-winning campaign will receive ₦4 million. Other registered players who did not participate will get ₦1 million each, while the head coach will take home ₦4 million.

The team chairman is to receive ₦3 million, assistant coaches ₦2 million each, and the backroom staff ₦1.5 million each.

Governor Diri also directed an upward review of salaries for state-owned male and female teams, pledging continuous support for sports development. He commended Premium Trust Bank for sponsoring Bayelsa Queens and urged other corporate organizations to increase their corporate social responsibility through sports sponsorship.

As Bayelsa Queens prepare to represent Nigeria at the WAFU Zone B tournament, the Governor encouraged the team to make the state and the nation proud.
